Launchmas Eve
We got a package this morning from the folks at Bioware. Inside was this awesome bit of esprit de corps:
Our ad company put together a new set of posters that are just AWESOME. We’re having the team sign a set that we’ll frame and hang in the office:
A close-up of my favorite:
Evil Avatar Radio.
I called in last night to talk to the EAR crew. I’m the very first part of the episode, so you don’t even need to fast-forward.
I notice, when I actually listen to myself after the fact, that I talk A LOT. Like… rambling, ranting ten minute answers. I need to work on that, methinks.
Launch Day update.
I’ve gotten a few emails from local (and a few less-than-local) players who want to swing by and say “howdy” on Thursday. Please bear in mind that we can’t let people into the studio-proper, especially on a major day like launch day, so coming to the office will almost certainly result in us reluctantly turning you away.
However, as I mentioned earlier, we WILL be doing a public signing/meet and greet at Gamestop in Fairfax at NOON on Thursday. Mark, Jeff, Paul and I will all be there, signing the WAR-related goodies that fans bring with them (we don’t have any extra boxes, so you should plan on bringing your own). It’s only scheduled for an hour, so show up early if you want a good place in line.
So, in conclusion, if you want to meet us for any reason on Thursday, come to Gamestop at NOON, NOT the studio.
We’re live!
I got so excited, I forgot to post for the first couple of hours! Anywho, those bright sparks who wisely ordered the Collector’s Edition have been set loose on our live servers as part of our Head Start program.Standard edition pre-order players get access in two days, then we go fully live on Thursday!See you in the WAR!
Launch Day goodness.
I make no promises about who will be there, but some of us will be signing WAR boxes at our local GameStop on Launch Day. If you can make it, the password is “OVERLORD”.
No, the password won’t work on anyone else, so if I’m not there, sorry.
Yes, quantities are VERY limited, so don’t spam your friends. When I’m out, I’m out.
No, I won’t say what “it” is.
Yes, the Hickman loooooves presents.
Dear Baz.
I think we may have broken your website. I saw your comment earlier and mentioned the piece to Marketing who liked it so much they linked it on our main site and now… um… your site is gone.
If it’s NOT our fault, I’ll breathe a sigh of relief.
If it IS our fault, I’m sorry. We only linked because we liked it!
Housekeeping!
Scatter-shot updates:
- THE HICKMAN and I did a quick video interview for Game Focus in Canada last week. It’s up on their site now!
- G4’s in the studio today. I sat down with them for an hour, as did RvR superstar Jeff Skalski. Paul then kidnapped the film crew and disappeared for four hours. Lord only knows what they were subjected to, but keep your eyes peeled for us on G4 and its affiliate sites and shows in the coming weeks.
- Tomorrow I have to make a quick trip to Vegas to wave at the GameStop managers shindig that’s going on there this week, but then I’m home through launch, which will represent the longest stretch of time I’ve been in the office in… well… many months. Aubrey is very pleased.
- Speaking of Aubrey, I fear I’m about to become a Spore Widower (while we don’t TECHNICALLY get married until next May, I feel entitled to that label). I grabbed her a Galactic Edition because I’m just nice like that.
- Obviously, we’re less than two weeks out from launch. Energy and emotions are running high as the team puts the finishing touches on WAR. We’ve got a great game and we know it, now we just need to get it out the door and into the hands of the players.
- Speaking of things worth getting your hands on, I got an early copy of the graphic novel that’s bundled with the Collectors Edition. It’s very nice. I think I still prefer the art book, but the graphic novel turned out really well.
- That’s about it for now. If you haven’t already, follow me and Barnett on Twitter. Or, if you’re only going to Twit with one of us, pick me. Paul’s got enough followers as it is.
That is all.
Twittering.
I must admit that I am disproportionately pleased with Twitter. In many ways, the strict limitations of the system encourage me to post more. There’s something about the microblog format that frees you to offer up a much more frequent, if less dense, amount of content on the fly.
I think it’ll be extremely interesting to use during the launch of WAR – fragments and glimpses of unvarnished front-line reportage, launched out at break-neck speed throughout the event. Of course, if things go WELL that day, my hope would be that no one would be watching Twitter feeds due to… you know… playing the game. But still, it’s something to look forward to.
Anywho, if you haven’t already, hop on Twitter. It’s not as ridiculous as it sounds when someone first explains it to you, I promise.
