EDGE/Next Gen interview

Here’s an interview I did a couple of weeks ago with EDGE/Next gen. They chopped it up into three parts, presumably because I was so exciting that they had total faith in my ability to command return-readership:

Part one
Part two
Part three

Standard caveat:  As with any interview I do over the phone, some words and phrases tend to get a tad jumbled when the transcription if finalized.  There are a few areas in this interview where mistakes in the transcript make my responses seem a bit wonky, so just be aware.  Ditto for typos and such.

I must say that I liked that they asked some questions that I personally haven’t seen asked rather than some of the standard questions seen posed to the Devs from about everyone.

The rest is some rather non-important stuff, kinda me sharing thoughts out loud:

“One Percenter”- I fully understand the context of this phrase when it relates to what is defined as a hard core player base, but for some reason it also sounds like a term you would hear from the gossips at work talking about the new guy. You know like “I found out yesterday that he is only a one percenter” …

“Liquid Awesome”- You didn’t say it this particular time, but I see you say it often. Just admit it, its Awesome Sauce.

Lastly I understand your a very busy man, you know making a game and all, but don’t you think the Squigs over in the Sketchbook section are getting a little lonely? Not saying you should update it, but if you ever had the urge to do something and couldn’t find something to do… maybe you could add more from your sketchbook?

“One Percenter” – I actually borrowed the term from American biker culture. The absolute baddest of the bad, scariest dudes on the road are referred to as “one percenters.” The history of the term comes from the old American Motorcycle Association who – after the 1947 Hollister “riot” (which inspired Brando’s “The Wild One”) – stated that 99% of bikers were decent and law abiding. The hardcore bikers – taking pride in the idea that they were more extreme and intimidating that 99% of the rest of the community – took it upon themselves to use “1%” as an indication of dedication and commitment to their lifestyle

As a result, I doubt you’ll ever hear anyone talking trash about a one percenter around the water cooler any time soon. At least not if they’re fond of NOT being whipped with chains. 🙂

“Awesome Sauce” – I’ve been known to use that from time to time, but Liquid Awesome is something different. Something… SPECIAL.

Sketchbook – You’re absolutely right. I’ll put something up later this week.

Highly informative you are, but I guess since you say your 100 years old you would pick up some knowledgeable things here and there (Yes, I read your WHA Profile).

For now on if someone says something intellectual it will be known as “Thats so Josh Drescher.” Actually everything from now on shall be referred to as being “Josh Drescher”. Well everything except pansy High Elves dieing like the chumps they are, because thats not “Josh Dresccher”.

Us High Elves won’t be the ones dying so frequently, and I really enjoyed this interview. It was nice not to read all the same stuff I’ve always read. In short… that interview was so “Josh Drescher”.

  5. Sketchbook - The Empire! :Josh Drescher on February 26th, 2008 12:32 am

[…] Vid reminded me that I’ve been slacking horribly when it comes to posting scans from the traveling sketchbook I mentioned way back in this entry. Well, I had a few minutes this evening to scan a handful of pages from the Empire section of the book. […]
