Follow-up to previous post.

A weirdly large number of people decided to email/IM me instead of commenting, which is curious. Are you all SECRET FILM MAKERS?

Anywho, to clarify a couple of things:

Yes, I realize that no “big” studio would grant the kind of access necessary to make a good documentary on game making. That being said, it’s far more likely that indie developers would be willing to consider it, if for no other reason than the promise of free advertising. And the story you’d get there would almost certainly be a good one, as there are only two likely outcomes:

1) Plucky underdogs make good and achieve success against all odds.

2) Wide-eyed dreamers crushed by factors beyond their control.

I’d watch either version!

I’d imagine not to many people would end up watching a documentary on game development. I guess it would probably be in line with “The King of Kong: Fist Full of Quarters”, only those interested in video games and video game history would watch it.

Personally I’d like see a video game museum. Imagine a place similar to the Library of Congress married together with the Smithsonian, except for video games only! In the museum you would have a theatre where you could watch a documentary on making of video games… *sigh*

Know if only I could win the lottery or get some large financial backing I’d create such a place.

But “King of Kong” was VERY popular – even with people who don’t care at all about gaming (much less ’80s arcade gaming). That film wasn’t really ABOUT gaming at all. It was about the people involved and the crazy stuff they thought, said and did.
