I personally J.J Abrams failed to produce a suitable American monster, I feel that particular monster would have been more suited for a Starship Troopers movie. Godzilla is a great example of a national monster because if you see Godzilla once you can easily recognize it later on if you see it again. I don't feel I could do the same with the "thing" from Cloverfield. There is still hope to see Stay Puft again, after all they are making the Ghostbuster games and he will be in it. ^^ Stay Puft would have been a much more recognizable American monster rather than the choice of the monstrosity in the movie.
